Where to Buy Plants Locally
You can get Buy Plants on Craigslist.org
Alot of people will thin out their gardens and give away plants for free on Craigslist. So depending on what you are looking for, this is always a good place to start. Also more people are taking to organic plants and I have found in my local area several organic growers, that sell their seedlings in season for SUPER cheap. These plants are amazing because they are grown in such rich conditions.
You can find Plants at Yard Sales
If you don’t mind hunting around at local yard sales, you can often find plants for sale or free. I bought a huge tree for $5 bucks this way. When hunting at yard sales… keep a shovel in your car – often owners will let you dig up a bush they wanted gone or thin out a flower patch if you’re considerate of their landscape.
Where to Buy Plants at Farmers Markets
More people are trusting farmers markets for their grocery needs, but more then groceries can be found there. Everything from herbs, to flowers and vegetable plants can often be bought at your local Farmers Market. You can do either a Facebook or a Google search for your local Farmer’s Market. Just type in “Farmers Market In___” your state in the blank.
You can get Plants at Plant Swaps
Last summer I got invited to a plant swap, it was the first time I had ever heard of one, but apparently this group had been doing this for more then 15 years! These are alittle harder to find, because they are typically invite only. But how they work is you bring a plant or plants and for every plant you bring you can take one home in return. You can search for Plant Swaps on Craigslist, Google or Facebook. Or start your own! I know this is one of my moms secret sources, her town holds a plant swap at the local grocery store once a year.

I bought an aloe plant on Amazon, within a few months I had transplanted it 2 times into a bigger pot. I have also bought seeds on Amazon. A word of caution, read the reviews before you buy plants from Amazon, not all sellers provide good plants.
Where to Buy Plants on Ebay
Yes they actually have live plants for sale on Ebay. Here again be sure the seller actually is selling the plant and not the seeds, and always be sure to buy from a reputable seller.
Where to Buy Plants at Burpee
The Burpee website claims that they sell both plants and seeds, however I have never personally bought from them – so I can’t vouch for that.
Where to Buy Plants at Monrovia
Monrovia sells plants through their online store, the prices are decent considering the size of the plants they send and shipping is always free.
Where to Buy Plants on Santarosa Gardens
Santarosa Gardens come highly recommended by other gardeners, they often have discounts depending on the season, prices are fair and they have a good variety of plants.
Where to Buy Plants on Green Earth Nursery
Green Earth Nursery comes highly recommended, if you’re looking for specifically grass like or shrub plants. Their prices are good, they give buying credits to their subscribers and free shipping offered on orders over $69.
